Abstract

This article presents the results of an investigation that documents the challenges that select teacher trainers from normal schools in Guatemala face in their daily work. Data analysis of focus groups conducted with these teacher trainers indicate that action is urgently needed if the educational system of Guatemala is to adequately address the needs of its multilingual multicultural populations.
Results strongly suggest that problems are not only situated within schools but, in fact, extend to all of Guatemalan society.
