Hand and Upper Extremity Transplant. A bioethical view in a middle income country

Tissue transplantation has developed rapidly since its introduction in the last century, saving and transforming hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. The transplant of nonessential tissue such as the hand entails a special ethical conflict, given the high financial cost, the need for resources from health systems and the need for immunosuppressive medication for the recipient. The main aspects related to the possibility of introducing this type of intervention in a middle-income country are discussed.
